After 7 hours in the mini-van, we finally arrived to our campsite and mom took photos of our neighbor's sweet pop-top travel van. This was the view from our site up on the cliffs of San Onofre, halfway between LA and San Diego.
After setting up the tent, we began searching for a path down to the beach.
The skies were dark and moody. There were lots of rocks at the end of the trail and a bunch of surfers out there in the freezing water.
Olive did her best Lieutenant Dan...
Back at camp, mom and dad made us take a cold shower with bees and then started a fire and made us some turkey wraps. Luckily we brought our hats : )
The next day we found a softer beach and soon the clouds burned off and it got hot enough to jump in the waves.
Watching the sun go down, the cliffs were otherworldly and we waited for a space craft to land.
We went into town at San Clemente to get ice and charge mom's phone at the library. Just so happens they were starting storytime, so we joined in and then went out for burgers. Later the sun came out, so more beach time and we ate a giant bag of cherries.
We had fun at the beach, but camping is hard and we didn't sleep that well with trains heading south near our campsite. By the third day, we were pretty worn out, wishing for a soft bed, a hot shower, and WIFI!
We were the grubbiest people there fo sho.
Down in San Diego, we set up at the beach to rest a bit before heading to the grocery store. Olive had a bee sting and was fighting a fever and not feeling super great.
The next morning, me and mom hit the boardwalk on Pacific Beach.
Another sunny day, so we headed to the beach for more splashing and boogie-boarding.
We went downtown looking for Italian food. We forgot it was Comic-Con, so the streets were filled with conference-goers. We saw a long line out the market of Philippi's Pizza Grotto in Little Italy, so we thought this was the place to be.
It was. We scarfed down pizza and linguini with clam sauce.
The last night we went for a walk along the boardwalk and found some treats.
We packed up the next morning and went down to the beach to say good-bye.
GG was kind of a pill this trip. We thought life would be easier without a stroller, but he's always on the loose!
